The skin after going through a complex treatment such as meat filtering, shaving will be passed through the dyeing stage to have multi-color pieces of leather. Leather dyeing is one of the most complicated stages of tanning, however, you can do buy a piece of leather that has not yet been dyed to do it by yourself.

Firstly, with raw animal skin, the hair is cleaned thoroughly, and then passed through the fabric to open the skin structure, which makes it easier for later chemicals to penetrate. This process will keep the skin more durable and beautiful. The type of skin that over time can rot is not called leather. So, before you want to dye a piece of leather, make sure it is real.

Choose a dye

There are two types of dye - liquid dye and stain (creamy dye). These two dyes also have the same effect but different uses. The first one is used for leather to draw, and the other is for leather to carve.

The liquid dye is oil-based, alcohol-based, acid-based and water-bases color. Oil based color has good penetration, does not burn the leather but being dirty, take a lot time to dry and difficult to dilute. Alcohol-based is quite easy to use, can be mixed with water or alcohol to dilute and permeates well. The downside is that it burns the leather and removes some of the moisture after dyeing. Acid-based is quite similar to alcohol-based, but they less burn because they are mild acids, such as vinegar, which is used as a solvent. Finally, water-based color, which is difficult to use because the water dissolves adhesives in the leather slower than other solvents, making it difficult to be permeable, and repeat to dye many times.

Before choosing a type of dye, it is important to notice what kind of your leather to determine the leather's porosity, surface consistency, whether it contains oil or not? ... and what are you using to dye. Depending on the need to choose the appropriate color. For example, if you want to dye the leather with high permeability, wide array should choose oil-based color due to slower drying and longer permeability.

Dyeing

Heat up the leather first by using a dryer or any other form that does not burn the leather. This step helps the leather to stretch, allowing the dye to penetrate deeper. Use a damp sponge to soften the surface. Do not let the leather get wet, only slightly moist.

Then use another sponge dot dye, go straight from side to side on the other hand. Please do not move too much, it will make the color not evenly. In this process, there will be some white foam but after drying it will disappear. When you finish spreading a layer, you wait for it dry and spread the second layer as well.

Simply, you've done. The hardest step is choosing the right dye. Now let's turn to make leather shoes, bags, wallets to your favorite color!
